IMAGINING BETTER

COMMUNITIES

DSC_7789.JPG

All of the projects I work with have place and community at their heart and I work hard to be inclusive and collaborative in terms of how projects are developed and delivered. I am keen to develop new partnerships and projects and would love to hear from you if you have a project idea.

ringing through time
church of our lady, seaton

I am working with delaval pcc and the friends of the church of our lady to deliver a programme of activities to help the local community to explore and enjoy the heritage of church of our lady as part of the NLHF funded project ringing through time.

having supported the team with bid writing in 2025, I am now project managing the activity programme including budgeting, commissioning of freelancer facilitators, coordinating activities and evaluation.

shared ground

I am working with Remembering the Past on Shared Ground, a project based in Burradon in North Tyneside. We were successful in securing a seed corn grant from the National Archive for the project. Working with Burradon Community Association we are exploring the idea of productive or future facing heritage, thinking about how heritage can be used to help people imagine different futures and feel more agency in the present.

We will be working with older people in the village to think about shared space and community, how they used the village in the past, where they were allowed to go, what are their formative memories, and then working with an artist facilitator to do some reflective sessions with a group from the local primary school. We then hope to bring both groups together and have a drop in open event for the whole community to think about what the young people have produced and get some responses.

just let your soul grow

I am working with just let your soul grow community garden in sunderland to evaluate the sustainable Sunderland programme, funded by the national lottery community fund.

we are developing the organisation theory of change and exploring ways of understanding and communicating the impact made by the community garden to reflect the needs and opportunities of the communities it serves.

gannin shoppin in shields

In late 2025 I worked with Remembering the Past on ‘Gannin’ Shoppin in Shields’, building on an oral history collection and exhibition which shares memories of shopping in North Shields in the twentieth century. I interviewed independent business owners in the town about why they chose to operate in Shields and their hopes for the town centre.

The work culminated with a week long exhibition in the beacon centre which attracted over 850 people. it was fascinating to hear memories and stories of the town, and to get an insight into residents opinions about the future of North Shields.

A Good Night Out in Chopwell

Whilst completing my PhD thesis I was awarded a grant from the Challenge Labs fund at Newcastle University towards a project which aimed to gather memories of the social life of the village of Chopwell, whilst providing a space for people to meet both virtually and in person and discover new opportunities to be social in the present. I created an exhibition which was shown in the Land of Oak Iron venues and held an event in the village.
