I am a Heritage Engagement Consultant specialising in place-based heritage projects.

My work is all about finding ways to help people discover, learn from, engage with, ask questions about, and get involved in heritage. My research interests focus on why and how people use the past to make sense of the present, and my consultancy work involves facilitating this process in various ways.

Arts and culture

As well as heritage projects I also work on arts and culture projects more generally. I have lots of experience working with big organisations like Councils and Universities, but I also love working with small community groups and other freelancers. I’m interested in how all these different people and organisations fit together (what we might call the ecosystem), and I’m interested in processes and structures. This led me to evaluation work, which is now part of my portfolio.

I can help you with:

Project management, delivery and grant monitoring support.

I have experience of developing and managing activity projects from start to finish (by ‘activities’ I mean the things that engage people - I do not manage capital/buildings projects).

Depending on the project, this could involve: budget control and reporting, risk management, funder reporting, contracts management, organising and delivering activities and events for the public, marketing and communications, evaluation, and much more!

Audience development planning and strategies.

Consultation planning and delivery.

It’s impossible to engage people with heritage without a plan. I can work with you to create an Audience Development Plan by considering who you already do and don’t engage with, who you would like to target, and developing ideas and methods that are most likely to reach those people. Consultation is a similar process but on a smaller scale - if you have a question you need to answer or a group you want to work with, I can help you find innovative ways to collect their thoughts and opinions to help you shape your plans.

Project development and bid-writing, particularly for National Lottery Heritage Fund projects

Having worked for NLHF, contributed to multiple NLHF bids, and project managed an NLHF funded project, I have an in-depth knowledge of processes and can give advice on putting together a successful bid.

Evaluation planning and delivery

I can work with you to create an Evaluation Plan for your project, which will meet the requirements of funders whilst demonstrating impact and providing useful data for future funding bids. I provide support in setting up processes to collect qualitative and quantitative data and work iteratively to enable improvements and adaptations to be made during the life of the project. I use innovative methods to create engaging and impactful reports, demonstrating the strengths and impact of projects.
